Panels and lamps can almost always be
repaired.
The lead and glass construction
means that parts can be repaired or replaced and the whole panel can be almost as good as
new and will last another century or more with little or no work till then.
The victorian panel on the left
was in a sorry state as your can see. By only replacing a little lead and glass and
tidying up the rest the panel was brought back into working order. As a rule I mend as
much as is neede and replace as little as possible, thus preserving much of the original
work. As a result the panel still looks authentic and attractive, and is robust.
Often glass which needs
replacing cannot be matched exactly, but usually an acceptable glass can be found. This
often adds to the beauty of the piece giving it an antique appearance.
